Hood Alignment and Waterfall Refresh

I’ve been working on the hood of the ’53 wagon over the past few days. One of the biggest improvements was replacing the old worn-out hood hinge assembly with a NOS (New Old Stock) hinge assembly I’ve had hanging in my garage. The difference was immediately noticeable. The hood now opens and closes much smoother and sits considerably better than it did before.

The old hinge assembly had worn hinge pins which caused the rear of the hood to bind, making it stick up when closed. Pushing it down would temporarily lower it, but it would slowly ride back up. It still needs some additional adjustment work to get the gaps exactly where I’d like them, but that’s a project for another day.

While I was at it, I decided to freshen up the waterfall trim. I had some old maroon paint in a cabinet, so I repainted the center maroon section. For the black accent stripes, I experimented with some 1/2-inch black vinyl striping tape that I found on Amazon. It was surprisingly easy to apply and gave the waterfall a much cleaner appearance. If the vinyl doesn’t hold up over time, I’ll simply remove it and paint the black stripes instead.

The waterfall certainly stands out a lot more now with its fresh paint and shine. It’s not perfect, but it’s a definite improvement and looks much better than it did before.
